This was the first set of stuff I tried, its a little sketchy and naiive but it was a necessary step. These first sketches culminate in the turnaround and character sheet at the end. These are the second set of characters. I haven't included any of the preparatory drawings because for the most part they are ugly and utilitarian as they should be, but not very interesting to look at. This is Funk Man, off-stage name Dick Putley, but dont call him that. He's in his mid 40's and a recent divorcee. He is a pub singer and is fond of spray tan and he might come from Ebbw Vale, I'm not sure yet. He thinks he's 'still got it' and who am I to tell him he's wrong. He Lives with the two below characters in a small flat as he has nowhere else to go after his wife kicked him out. This is Greg. Supersized and granted sentience in a freak irradiation incident, he is thin and athletic despite eating only junk food, much to the annoyance of the others. He is adventureous and pretty keen for life. He is music savvy and goes to a lot of gigs, although you've probably never heard of them. He may have secret superpowers, as yet unknown to both him and me. This is Oscar. He named himself after his favourite poet, Oscar Wilde, and considers himself to have considerable literary acumen. Ashamed of being a mucus cell, and regretting choices he made as a stem, he devotes himself to writing his magnum opus. He is thoughtful yet pessimistic and cursed with the mind of a genius. Although outwardly an introvert he does sometimes worry himself with trivial matters, paranoid that he isn't as popular as Greg. A hopeless romantic, he also longs for companionship and worries that nobody could every truly love a big sack of phospholipid bilayers and mitochondria, despite having a big squishy nucleus full of love ready for Ms Right.
